HOME

We couldn't put recessed lighting at the front door so we opted for this light fixture.  Does the job right.

Check out the cabinet door paint factory our contractor put together.

HOME

This home has been truly a blessing.  We searched for so long and at first we weren't suppose to get this house.  We were the lowest offer out of 7, but were chosen because we were a newly married couple looking for our first home.  Our prayers were answered and today we received a awesome card from the seller.  This house was a trust because the seller's parents had passed. She told us that her parents had lived in the house for 46 years and raised all 6 of their children in this home.  It's awesome that we were picked to purchase this home so we can start our family and create new memories.

HOME: KITCHEN

So after choosing our kitchen flooring we came to the conclusion that we needed to paint the cabinets white, so the colors wouldn't get muddled together.  It really opens up the space now that the cabinets are white.

HOME: HALLWAY

New can lighting has been installed in the hallway. It makes a big difference with the visibility and the hallways looks bigger with the light bouncing off the new paint.  Our electrician James also helped us out with new switches and outlet plates.

Finally, we got some shower tile going up.  We went with a larger polished subway tile for a contemporary look.

HOME: BATHROOM

So demo in the bathroom has begun.  Joyce and I are buying tile for this tomorrow along with all the extra accoutrements for it.

Paint is coming to a close and the swiss coffee color makes the house look bigger and clean.  Plus knocking down the useless wall really opens up the space.  The brick fireplace is a true focal point now.

HOME: KITCHEN

Next up is the kitchen.  The square footage is awesome and it needs some love.  Starting with removing some old back splash tile that was weirdly placed all over the kitchen.

KCRW presents M83 @ The Hollywood Bowl

Great time with friends this weekend at The Hollywood Bowl for the M83 concert.  We met up with our friends Ally and Brian to take in this KCRW Summer Festival Event and enjoy the amazing Fall weather.

Joyce and I spent the better part of the day in LA running around the town looking for stuff for the house, so when we arrive to the Hollywood Bowl I need a little break.

Before we got busy on the amazing eats Ally made, Brian passed us these laser hot ghost peppers he grew in his garden.  I am looking forward to making an oil out of these bad boys.  Watch out!

Ally made a honey lemon balm spritzer that was ridiculous good.  I could drink this everyday and probably will.

The spread was the perfect meal before the show.  It was farm to table, everything coming from her and Brian's home garden.  Nothing better than a homemade kale caesar salad and pesto chicken pasta.

We had nice nosebleed seats in the center of the venue.  We did, however, have to deal with some reefer madness and dumbass kids spouting off a complaint filled live twitter feed behind us.  The dumb youth of today; all complaints and no action.

So as we made our way home it turned into a mini foodventure starting with a stop at Pink's.  With no line and a parking spot in front, we had to stop.  Nothing better than the classic chili cheese dog.

Our friend Amar has bugged us to death to grab a suadero taco from this gem, Taco El Gallito.  I almost missed it, but made a quick u-turn so I wouldn't let him down.  He was right, the suadero taco did change our life.  If you are buzzed and need some eats, go here because you will be a happy customer.

A-M-A-Z-I-N-G!!!

HOME

We had a trick door off the master that was a little sketch.  We had it sealed up to get us some more wall space.

HOME

We closed on our new home and things are under way starting with scraping the ceilings.  Stay tuned...

UCLA

Since we were in the area, it only felt fitting to stop by our alma mater to take a stroll down memory lane.

The great John Wooden.

CANI'S BIRTHDAY

We made the trip up to LA to celebrate Cani's birthday at one of our favorite college spots, Fu's Palace. It was a perfect place to make new memories and actually visit it in a sober state to see what it looks like.  Like old times the alcohol was served up in plastic cups and there was a bevy of fried chinese appetizers.  Oh, and to top it off it was a 90's party.

PLAN CHECK (Los Angeles)

Joyce and I were in town for Cani's birthday and used it as a great opportunity to check out some new spots in the city we have missed.

CHEFS FAVORITE BURGER: cheese two ways, bacon two ways, ketchup leather, sunny fried egg, hot sauce

This blew us away, the cruller donuts.

DAVID BURKE'S PRIMEHOUSE (Chicago)

Thanks to our friend Shawna for recommending David Burke's Primehouse because it was an awesome culinary experience.

Joyce finally got her oysters.  She was very upset with me because I got some at Mike Ditka's restaurant.

This appetizer was quite the gem.  Wagyu Beef Sashimi over a Himalayan salt block.  Wrap your head around that one.

And the reason why we came, the 75 day age ribeye we reserved for this meal.  We tried to recreate some magic by ordering a side of foie gras.  To keep it short...the meal was perfect.

RPM Italian (Chicago)

Since we were in town, we had to try RPM Italian since we love Italian food and love Giuliana and Bill Rancic. The food lived up to the hype and was super delicious.  Starting in the top left and going clockwise: Giuliana's Italian Salad, Prime Beef Meatballs, Black Truffle Risotto, and Mama DePandi's Bucatini Pomodoro.

FOODIES

WITH GOOD FRIENDS

It was great to see these familiar faces over the weekend.

WRIGLEY

LITTLE GOAT DINER (Chicago)

We spent Labor Day weekend in Chicago and stopped by this gem for brunch. Opened by Top Chef winner Stephanie Izard, the Little Goat Diner is full of good eats. We caught it on a nice rainy day which was perfect for packing in some good food.

If the weather was better this roof decker would have been in play.

Anthony stepped it up a notch with a bacon shake.  It was pretty legit.

Goat Chilli Cheese Fries
